The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Little Cloud Literature Unit
By Eric Carle
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This tale follows the story of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. The caterpillar starts off as a little egg, but soon hatches and, over the course of a week, goes on a journey of eating a variety of different foods. He grows from a tiny caterpillar to a big, fat caterpillar. He then builds a cocoon around himself and after more than two weeks, emerges as a beautiful butterfly.
Little Cloud
A little cloud drifts through the sky with the other clouds. He soon breaks away from the others. As he floats along, he turns into many different shapes, including a sheep, an airplane, a rabbit, and a clown.
Soon, the other clouds call out to Little Cloud to come back to them. Then, they all join together to form one large cloud. Finally, it rained!
