Helen's Biography

Hello! I am Helen Sabin. I am a face to face instructor at community colleges in California and I also teach online for organizations such as the Professional Development Institute.  I have taught at many different levels ranging from pre-school to the graduate level but I like the online environment the best because I get to work with individuals who are cyber-pioneers!  They are like the pioneers of old – daring enough to take on a new challenge and willing to learn something new.

Due to being a former military wife and moving around a lot with my husband, I had the opportunity to try many different educational opportunities that came my way.  As a result, I have a broad educational and business background. I have taught in many states and have also done such diverse things as being director for a small private religious school in Maryland , an owner of a party planning and entertainment business in New York , and an instructor in outdoor survival training in Colorado .  The latter proved very beneficial when, back in the 80’s, Hurricane Gloria came through where we were living in Long Island, New York, and took out all the power for a week. Since I knew how to build a fire, I would prepare coffee every morning and offer it to anyone desperate for a “cup of ambition.”   It’s a great way to meet people in your neighborhood!

My husband is a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and I have two sons in different services - my oldest is soon to be a Captain in the Army and the other is a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force, and a pilot in flight training at the Air Force Academy.  My sons tease each other that the younger son gets to salute the older boy and they both get to salute their dad who holds the highest rank. Of course, they all salute me -I am MOM!

The online environment is one of the greatest ways to learn and I hope that sometime you consider trying a class online and join me in this wonderful way to learn something new.
