Heidi's Biography

Hello everyone! My name is Heidi Pherrin.  I have just completed my twenty-sixth year of teaching in the Santa Ana Unified School District , it certainly went by quickly!  I have also just completed my second year of my current job assignment as a third grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary School .  At Jefferson , I am also on the Technology Committee and am in the process of rewriting the Jefferson Technology Plan.  I also serve as their Literacy Coach. 

My first thirteen years in Santa Ana Unified were spent at Roosevelt Elementary. I started as a language arts teacher. In the mornings I worked with Vietnamese refugees who had just entered the United States and I had a transitional bilingual kindergarten in the afternoons.  I moved to fourth, fifth, and various combinations of third, fourth and fifth in transitional bilingual and immersion English classes over the years.  My last three years at Roosevelt , I was in a Title 1 Resource position.  Prior to my move to Jefferson, I worked for ten years at Walker Elementary School as the Technology Resource Teacher and the Technology Coordinator. At Walker , I had an opportunity to work with the entire staff and all students the school integrating technology into the curriculum and made all the technology purchases for the school.  When my position was no longer funded, I was given a wonderful opportunity to put what I had learned into action in my own classroom at Jefferson and also share my knowledge with the wonderful staff at Jefferson .
