What are the benefits of a flex-time course?

Earn three units/credits online for taking an online course for only $124 each!

Courses are conducted entirely online. You do not have to GO anywhere to earn your units/credits.

These continuing education courses are self-paced. They do not run on the semester schedule as other PDI courses do.

These courses are open enrollment year-round to accommodate your schedule.  You have up to one year from registration to complete your course.

Each three-unit course has five online tests and two written assignments. One-unit courses have four tests.

Still not convinced? We are happy to provide you with access to a sample course. Click here to visit a class. Or, you can take a look at what other teachers have said about PDI courses. Click here to read teacher testimonials.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION YOU NEED ABOUT YOUR COURSE

What are the assignments?

Each course has online tests the participant takes to prove competency in the subject area. Generally, there are five tests with 10 questions on each test. There is also one required written assignment in each course.

When do I have to complete the course?

You can work on these courses at your own pace, year-round. You have one year from the day you register to complete the course. When you complete your course you will automatically receive an e-mail completion letter. You then have the following options for further documentation, if needed:

Contact your district for their specific documentation requirements, if you are unsure of what you need.

Do I need university credit? What does it cost?

You can earn three semester units of graduate-level credit for each online course you take. (We do offer a few courses for one unit each.) The credit is from Chapman University. Chapman is a fully accredited University. Credit can be used for salary advancement and credential renewals. You will receive a letter grade and can get an official University transcript for the courses. Credit fees are a total of $210 for three unit courses and $70 for one unit courses. We do not build the credit fee into the price of the course because not all participants need the University credit.  A three unit course is equivalent to 45 hours of coursework.

SUMMER CREDIT SPECIAL: You can earn three semester units of graduate-level credit for each online course you take. (We do offer a few courses for one unit each.) This summer, credit fees are reduced to $55 per unit (regularly $70 per unit). The credit is from Chapman University. It is a fully accredited University. Credit can be used for salary advancement and credential renewals. You will receive a letter grade and can get an official University transcript for the courses. If you complete a summer course by August 25th, you qualify for the special summer credit fee. If you are taking a Flex-Time Course, you must complete your course between June 6th and August 25th in order to qualify for the summer credit special. It does not matter when you register for the course, the credit is determined by when you COMPLETE your course. We do not build the credit fee into the price of the course because not all participants need the University credit. In order to receive the summer rate, your credit form must be postmarked by August 31st.

Please note, if you do not meet the requirements above but send PDI/Chapman the $55 per unit rate rather than the $70 per unit rate, your credit will be held until you pay the additional fee. This could result in a serious delay in obtaining your grade report and/or transcript.

Do I need an official completion letter and grade report from PDI? What does it cost?

The following states have approved PDI courses without the need for University credit: Illinois, Rhode Island, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Many districts have also approved PDI courses without the need for University credit. Click here to see a list of districts who have approved our courses. Fees for an official PDI completion letter (you will automatically get a free completion letter via e-mail) and official PDI grade report are $9 per letter/report. This fee does not have to be paid until the completion of your course. An online request form is provided in the course completion information.

Do I need special technology?

Absolutely not! The system we use for the courses is Internet-based. All you need is a browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, AOL, etc.) and e-mail. THERE IS NOTHING TO DOWNLOAD OR INSTALL. If you can point and click, you can take the course!

What does it cost?

Each one-unit course is $65 and a three-unit course is $124. Note that credit fees (if you need them) are separate from these registration fees.

What is the refund policy?

The following policy applies to refunds for online courses:
